"This time it seems to me that it has gone too far." The Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, said this on the case of Ilaria Salis, the 39-year-old teacher of Sardinian origin brought in chains to court in Budapest : it is a «violation of community rules» and is not «in harmony with our legal civilisation", he added, speaking on Radio Anch'io.
Last night the woman's father, Roberto Salis, spoke on the "Quarta Repubblica" program: «My daughter was tortured for 35 days, she was left with dirty clothes that were given to her at the police station, she spent eight days in cell of isolation without toilet paper, soap and sanitary napkins. And in those days she also had her period," she said. «Before the embassy was able to deliver a package that had already been available for a long time, 35 days passed - he continued - in which my daughter had to use one of the items of clothing she was wearing to dry herself after a shower because she didn't have any available a towel".
Salis last saw Ilaria before yesterday, "on November 26th". «I learned of these conditions to which she was subjected every time she went to the hearing on 12 October, because we received a letter from Ilaria addressed to her lawyers and which was sent to the embassy. This letter contained these statements which I unfortunately was unaware of," he explained. «These unhuman treatments occurred until we saw this letter. We were able to witness this unspeakable scene for the first time today (yesterday, ed.)." Roberto Salis counted «at least four hearings, probably five, in which the embassy staff went to see» Ilaria, in which «she was treated in exactly the same way and five times they didn't lift a finger. They only did it when I finally managed to bring in a television crew." For the man, "the embassy didn't work well."
Last Tuesday he was received by Minister Nordio : «We had a conversation, we set up a strategy to try to bring Ilaria home. There are some inconsistencies but that is the right path. If you want to solve these problems you can't keep passing the ball from one side to the other, you have to create a team of people who have the powers to decide and carry out the actions that are necessary." “Now the time for talk must end and we must move on to the time for facts,” concluded Salis.
