At least 12 people have been killed and three hundred injured in the Houthi attack on Riyadh Airport, Saudi Arabia. The victims, according to the country's Civil Aviation Authority, are four Saudis and eight foreigners. One of them is an American.

UN condemnation

The attack on Riyadh airport "constitutes a serious escalation," said UN envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, pointing the finger at pro-Iranian Houthi fighters. "Such actions pose a grave threat to regional security, perpetuate cycles of violence, and further complicate peace efforts in Yemen," Grundberg said in a statement, urging the Houthis to "end these attacks" against civilian targets in Saudi Arabia.

Trump's reaction

The attack on Saudi Arabia is "terrible": when it happened, "it's unacceptable." This, however, was Donald Trump's reaction, emphasizing that there are communications with the Houthis. "Let's see what happens," he emphasized. The US president also announced that he will speak with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

High voltage

Following the attack, the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia raised its alert level for American citizens in the country. It also restricted its staff's access to the Saudi airports in Jeddah and Dammam. A statement reads: "U.S. government employees working in Saudi Arabia require special authorization to use King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, as well as the airports in Jeddah and Dammam."
