Viktor Orbán's crusade against anyone in Hungary who deviates from his staunch support continues. And this time the Hungarian prime minister has targeted Budapest Pride , the LGBTQ+ parade scheduled for June 28 in the streets of the capital, now in its thirtieth edition.
An event that, according to Orbán, should not happen.
Hungary's ruling party, Fidesz, has in fact introduced a bill to ban the Pride march and impose fines on the organizers and people who attend the event , international media reported.
The bill bans Pride by establishing that "no gatherings may be held that violate the prohibition established by the law on the protection of children." The aim, therefore, is to make the LGBTQ+ community invisible to children, so as not to expose them to "gender propaganda."
Orbán has also pledged to crack down on foreign funding for independent media, opposition politicians and NGOs in the country ahead of elections scheduled for early next year.
