Half a ton of cocaine, ready to be shipped to Europe, hidden on banana shipping containers.

The maxi-load was seized by the police in Ecuador, in a building in the coastal province of Manabí, during an operation in which a person was also arrested, probably the person in charge of protecting the drug consignment from prying eyes .

Through investigative work, reports the newspaper El Comercio of Quito, it has come to the search of a house that served as a collection center for large quantities of drugs. Separated into small packages, the newspaper points out, the cocaine was, as mentioned, shipped overseas via seaports where it was hidden among sacks and crates of bananas.

With this blitz, the authorities of the South American country report, about 4.6 million doses intended for the European drug dealing market were preventively eliminated from the market.

According to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs (UNODC), Ecuador is the third country in the world where the most drugs are seized, behind Colombia and the United States. Since the beginning of 2023, around 50 tons of drugs have been seized in Ecuador, a trend that is starting to close the year with over 200 tons, as already happened in 2021 and 2022.
