Greenland intends to decide its own future. This was reiterated by the leaders of the five parties represented in the parliament, the Inatsisartut, in a joint statement, reported by the dpa news agency.

“We don’t want to be Americans, we don’t want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders,” they stressed.

In the statement, they also called on the United States to “stop showing contempt for our country.”

And they clarified: "The future of Greenland must be decided by the Greenlandic people."

Greenland, with a population of about 57,000, is a largely autonomous territory, although it officially belongs to Denmark.
