The death toll from last Friday's explosion in Havana at the Saratoga hotel is further worsening. According to the latest updates provided by the Cuban government, 27 are dead, 81 injured, 37 of whom are still in hospital. They received a visit from President Miguel Díaz-Canel who encouraged them with phrases such as "come on, we will get out".

In the meantime, work continues to remove the rubble: there are people who are missing and perhaps have been trapped after the collapses.

The tragedy, the authorities pointed out, is not due to a bomb but to a gas leak, the causes of which further investigations are underway.
