President Erdogan , on the phone with Vladimir Putin , called for a "unilateral" ceasefire and a peaceful solution to the crisis : «Calls for peace and negotiations between Moscow and Kiev should be supported by a stop to fire and a vision for a fair solution".

Among the topics of the phone call also energy , bilateral relations and Syria . In particular, Erdogan said that he has strengthened the infrastructure for the creation of a natural gas center in Turkey and that he will complete the road map on the issue as soon as possible. According to the Russian news agency Tass, Erdogan has also called for specific measures to rid northern Syria of terrorists .

Meanwhile, the Russian patriarch Kirill calls for a truce from war for the Orthodox Christmas. In a statement, as reported by the Kremlin press, «the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill invites all parties involved in the internal conflict to establish a Christmas truce from 12:00 Moscow time on January 6 to 12:00 on January 7 , so that the Orthodox can participate in the religious services on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day".
