Coronavirus data in North Korea are worsening where there are another 21 deaths and 147,400 more people are suffering from a "feverish state". Yesterday morning, leader Kim Jong-un chaired a meeting of the Politburo which spoke of the first outbreak in more than two years of the pandemic .

Mainly discussed were ways of rapidly supplying and distributing medical supplies to address the emergency to "minimize loss of life".

In the country, the health system is almost non-existent, considered among the worst in the world. Without Covid vaccines, antivirals, or mass testing capabilities, there will be serious challenges in managing a mass epidemic.

"It is good to learn from the anti-epidemic successes and the experience already acquired by China and the Chinese people in the fight against the malignant virus" is one of the conclusions reported by the official agency.

Pyongyang has for now rejected offers of anti-Covid vaccines from China, Russia and the World Health Organization's Covax program. But the leader, in the meantime, expressed "confidence" that the pandemic crisis can be overcome soon, stressing that it is not "uncontrollable" as it is limited and confined within some regions that have already been placed in total lockdown, without giving further details.
