Another black Tuesday for Europe in the battle against the coronavirus, with the Omicron variant spreading everywhere.

Scandinavia is among the European regions that is facing a very rapid rise in infections due to the new mutation. In fact, Denmark records the highest rate of infections in the world: according to the data of the past few hours, 1,612 out of 100 thousand inhabitants are positive for Covid. The country of 5.8 million inhabitants - reports the Guardian - on Monday recorded a new record of infections, exceeding for the first time 15,000 cases in 24 hours, exactly 16,164, compared to 130,686 swabs, with a positivity rate of 12 , 4%.

Finland , after a lightning-fast meeting of the government, has decided to ban, with some exceptions, all unvaccinated foreigners over the age of 16 from entering the country. Non-residents vaccinated will still have to undergo the swab within 48 hours prior to their entry.

France , in the last 24 hours, recorded 180,000 positives, a figure significantly higher than that of Christmas Day, when the country had broken through the ceiling of 100,000 cases.

In England, the record of daily infections has been recorded since the beginning of the Covid pandemic: 117,093 infections, exceeding the previous record of 113,628 cases on Christmas Day. In the United Kingdom there were 129,471 cases, with 18 deaths, but the data are incomplete due to the holiday period, as highlighted by the British authorities.

In the Netherlands , where the lockdown is in force, the growth of infections slows down but, according to experts, after Omicron officially ousted Delta, the country could face a new leap in positive cases and hospital admissions.

Germany , where only the unvaccinated are in "quarantine", seems to be holding up for the moment while Belgium records a moderate but steady decline in infections and, thanks to a ruling by the Council of State which canceled the royal decree of 22 December , will see cinemas and theaters reopen in the next few hours.
