A "historic" agreement to compensate the countries of the world most affected by extreme weather events.

It is the first result from Cop28, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change underway in Dubai.

The representatives of the 197 countries present, plus those of the European Union, including Italy, reached an agreement to make the "Loss & Damage" fund operational at the World Bank, which will guarantee, as mentioned, aid to the poorest nations and vulnerable, brought to their knees by natural disasters.

Italy, announced Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, will contribute 130 million euros to the fund.
