The Lebanese government is on high alert following a series of reports from Arab and international sources indicating the possibility of an imminent large-scale Israeli military operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji made the announcement in an interview with Al Jazeera.
According to the minister, the warnings received indicate Tel Aviv's advanced preparations, a circumstance that has prompted Beirut to take diplomatic action. Rajji explained that the government is conducting "intense contacts" with regional and international partners in an effort to dissuade Israel from military action while simultaneously ensuring the safety of Lebanese personnel and infrastructure.
Domestically, Rajji reported that the government continues to engage with Hezbollah in an attempt to secure the voluntary surrender of its arsenal. The minister argued that the group's weapons have not proven effective "in supporting Gaza and defending the country" over the past two years, a position that could fuel further tensions in Lebanon's already fragile political landscape.
