A shocking video that went viral in Iran, in which a man shows the severed head of his 17-year-old wife on the streets of Ahvaz, in the province of Khuzestan.

Ghazal Heidari, this is the man's name, was arrested yesterday after confessing to femicide, motivating it with an alleged betrayal by his wife Mona, whom he married when she was just 12 years old.

The man has a three-year-old daughter and his brother was also arrested, accused of helping him to commit the crime.

But that's not enough for public opinion. The incident is causing controversy and many Iranians, including officials and media celebrities, have called for the approval of laws against violence against women.

There are countless criticisms of Parliament due to the lack of effective legislation on the subject, also to prevent them from being forced to marry at a very young age.

The deputy Elham Azad denounced the lack of laws against violence against women, hoping that a provision in this regard already proposed to the parliamentary assembly 10 years ago by reformist deputies will soon be ratified. In recent years, the practice of the so-called "honor killing" has created discussions in Iranian society as in the case of the beheading of 13-year-old Romina Ashrafi in 2020 by her father.
