Playground attack, children stab wounds: they're serious. Fear in Annecy

An elderly man and four small children were injured in a knife attack in Annecy, France.

Two of the affected children are brother and sister, aged 2 and 3 respectively, and both are in very serious conditions.

The other two children involved are a 22-month-old German boy and a 2-year-old English boy.

The attack took place in a playground and one person was arrested by the police.

We are talking about Abdalmasih H, 45, an asylum seeker of Syrian origin and of Christian religion , who is not reported in the lists of dangerous persons and who had requested and obtained asylum. The man, separated from his wife, is the father of a three-year-old girl, roughly the age of the children targeted on the playground.

“We saw a person attack the children near the games. At first we all thought it was a set-up, but when we heard the screams we realized it was all real», witnesses said, explaining that the attacker wore a turban and appeared «he was confused».

The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, confirmed the arrest with a tweet "thanks to the timely intervention of the police".

“An attack of absolute cowardice. The nation is in shock,” French President Emmanuel Macron commented on Twitter.
