After the order-injunction of the Electoral Guarantee Board that declared Alessandra Todde forfeited from her position as regional councilor – who would thus also lose that of president of the Region – attention is now also on the next steps. Specifically, the timing of the forfeiture procedure will be crucial.


The opposition is already asking the governor to step down and is considering new elections . The fall of the president would drag down the entire Regional Council. The chamber, taking note of the decline, would condemn itself. This is an unprecedented scenario, with the hypothesis on one of the possible developments that concerns the possibility of taking time while waiting for the outcome of the appeals.

Yesterday morning, the majority met with President Todde for several hours . The measure still has to be challenged, but the governor anticipated it: «The appeal is absolutely normal», she announced yesterday at the end of the group leaders' conference . «From the point of view of my path, I will do everything that my lawyers deem correct to defend myself in the appropriate venues». With the will to move forward: «I am entitled to govern. We were elected to serve the Sardinians, and we will do this until there are definitive acts». The game, in essence, has just begun.

Two days after the earthquake, President Todde does not want to appear weak: "I am certain of the correctness of my actions, I have faith in the judiciary and I will clarify everything in the appropriate places. The act of the regional electoral guarantee commission has no power to remove me from office . The only body that can remove me is the Regional Council ", she said today in an interview with Repubblica. "I will not accept lessons in legality from those who defend a minister accused of fraud against the State or who voted in Parliament for the "niece of Mubarak"".

Todde then added to Corriere della Sera: "I feel that in the end I will be able to assert my reasons. Everything is tracked, everything is accounted for on the M5S website, the bank statements, the bank movements." And to Fatto Quotidiano he said: " Paradoxically, this affair has brought my majority together again . I spoke at length with both Conte and Elly Schlein, my advisors showed me their closeness and the PD technicians spoke with our lawyers. We are united."
