After the postponement of yesterday's matches, which will be played tomorrow , Serie A has once again seen its calendar modified due to the needs arising from the death of Pope Francis. On the occasion of the Council of Ministers, which declared five days of national mourning from today until Saturday (the date on which, at 10 am in St. Peter's Basilica, the funeral of the Pontiff who died yesterday at the age of 88 will be held ), it was decided to postpone the advance matches of the thirty-fourth day of the championship.
On Saturday, Serie A scheduled matches were Como-Genoa (3:00 p.m.), Inter-Roma (6:00 p.m.) and Lazio-Parma (8:45 p.m.) . The last two are the most complex situations, in relation to the date of the recovery: the Nerazzurri cannot postpone the match for too long, as they will be in Barcelona on Wednesday 30 April for the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, while Lazio-Parma will have to be moved to Monday at the very least, as 100,000 people are expected in Rome on Sunday for the Jubilee of Youth, also confirmed following the death of Pope Francis.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito had asked not to play Genoa tomorrow (the recovery date set yesterday) but the Lega Serie A rejected the proposal. Verona-Cagliari, scheduled for Monday at 8:45 p.m., is not currently at risk of being postponed . "Saturday's matches are suspended," confirmed Nello Musumeci, Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies in his speech at the end of the Council of Ministers.
The president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, has invited the national sports federations, the associated sports disciplines and the sports promotion bodies to suspend all sporting events scheduled for Saturday 26 April , the day of the funeral of Pope Francis, renewing in addition the invitation to observe a minute of silence in the competitive events that will take place during the week to honor the memory of the Pontiff.
