A grave mourning hit the world of Sardinian emigration. Filippo Soggiu, former president of the Federation of Sardinian associations in Italy (Fasi), a position he held from 1994 to 2002, has died .

Originally from Buddusò, he was 95 years old and had lived in Pavia for a long time where he led the "Logudoro" club for a long time, but his figure was known nationwide , always committed to carrying on the great battles of the emigrants : from discounted rates to efforts to ensure that the new generations maintain a link with the land of their fathers and grandfathers.

In a note, Fasi describes him as “a careful guide, a sure friend, a passionate, wise and tireless Sardinian. Emigrants have lost a point of reference, a man capable of uniting them and taking care of them and of his beloved Sardinia without limits. A tireless organizer of associations, always a fighter on the problem of transport and territorial continuity, precursor of the ticketing service with the application of the 'fast track of Tirrenia', an agreement signed by the first president of the League of Sardinian clubs, Tullio Locci, together with the then undersecretary of the Merchant Navy Giovanni Nonne”.

Many remember his fighting spirit, firm in his principles, not willing to give up on what he has always considered a fundamental right of the Sardinians who had to leave their land - like him -: always keep those values in their hearts, make them count all political, social and economic levels. For decades he has been committed to building a future for emigrant associations, always present at events and willing to listen to everyone.

Numerous awards have been attributed to him over the decades in the world of the other Sardinia and for this Filippo Soggiu will not be forgotten.
