The renovation work on the new Police station in Quartu has not yet started. And while the Municipality and citizens await the start of the construction site, the Democratic Party Senator Marco Meloni today filed an urgent question in the Senate addressed to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, asking for clarifications and immediate interventions.

In particular, the question refers to the delays in starting the works to adapt the structure located in via Boito, which until 2006 housed a nursery school. The building was identified after discussions between the municipal administration, the Prefecture and the Cagliari Police Headquarters to prevent the relocation of the local police station, which is now located in an unsuitable building.

As Meloni explains in a press release, «the renovation works are the responsibility of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport - Interregional Public Works Department, as the procedure for the free transfer of the property from the Municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena to the State was concluded in October 2022».

The MP then declared: «To date, two years after the signing of the notarial deed granting the Agenzia del Demanio ownership of the structure on Via Boito, it is still completely abandoned and subject to frequent acts of vandalism. Although the building has been deemed suitable to house the Police Station, the necessary work has not yet begun, leaving the community of Quartu without adequate security». And he added: «The safety of the citizens of Quartu Sant'Elena is a priority, and it is unacceptable that a structure that should house a fundamental garrison for public order is in a state of decay. We ask the Ministry to intervene without further delay to guarantee the safety of the city and the working dignity of the Police officers».

The question therefore requested the immediate securing of the building and the initiation of procedures for the definitive transfer of the police station.
