Maddy, the wild boar who survived a hunting trip that injured his leg, forcing him to endure 43 days of agony, has been released.

Yesterday he was welcomed into the Miky Pig - Santuario animali liberi shelter in Telti, which houses animals rescued from exploitation and abuse. In a large enclosure, with shaded areas, a pool of water and an insulated structure so he feels safe, Maddy will be cared for by a veterinary team, together with the Anti-vivisection League, to ensure his proper recovery.

Wounded in a leg by a noose or a rifle shot, Maddy was rescued in La Maddalena in 2023, thanks to LAV and Forestas. Taken to the Bonassai Wildlife Breeding and Recovery Center, the veterinarians evaluated the amputation of the compromised limb.

Then, between bureaucracy and waiting, the wild boar spent almost two years locked in a concrete box without being able to move in a natural environment, with dire consequences for his health. To save Maddy, LAV had launched an appeal, accepted by the Region which, through the Department of Environmental Protection, had requested the intervention of the Carfs of Bonassai, ensuring the release into nature once he had recovered and the search for a suitable structure to continue the treatment.
