Wild boar invasion: Olbia committee calls for urgent measures approved by the Region.

People injured after terrible falls, pensioners avoiding leaving their homes at night, and garbage strewn everywhere in some areas of the city. The wild boar problem in Olbia is very serious; there are neighborhoods where it's inadvisable to leave the house for a walk or a dog walk late at night. The silhouettes of wild boars can be glimpsed in the dim light, small and large, in families, brazen, and undaunted by the presence of humans.

Olbia-based lawyer Christian Cicoria has been collecting data and signatures for months to urge action by the Municipality of Olbia. At the end of 2025 (after a petition signed by a thousand people), the lawyer secured an important decision from the Regional Department for Environmental Protection. Cagliari authorized the Operational Plan for the management and control of wild boar (Sus scrofa meridionalis) in the outskirts of Olbia. A success for Cicoria and the thousands of people who supported the initiative.

The Region has acknowledged the existence of the problem of the massive "penetration of wild boars into the urban and suburban fabric of the city of Olbia." To date, however, the plan has remained unimplemented. Christian Cicoria is not arguing, but he points out the difficult situation for many Olbia residents: "A solution must be found immediately; people's safety is also at risk. We are not suggesting tools or specifying methods; we are asking that what has been communicated to us be followed." A map of the at-risk areas exists: Poltu Cuadu, De André High School and the primary school on Via Modena, roundabouts at the entrance to the city, in the airport area, the parking lots of the "Olbia Mare" shopping centers and in the commercial center on Via Bambini di Beslam, the area in front of the Carabinieri headquarters, on Via degli Astronauti and the Local Police headquarters, Via Roma, Via Venafiorita, and Viale Aldo Moro alta. A pensioner has already received compensation from the Region after being attacked by a wild boar.
