No exceptions to the hunting calendar, the Region - despite itself - cannot extend the wild boar hunt in the month of February .

" The negative opinions of Ispra and the Ministry of the Environment unfortunately don't allow us to do it," says Environment councilor Marco Porcu.

The Region had chosen to extend the hunting period due to the increase in road accidents caused by animals (over 1,200) and the huge damage to agriculture reported by trade associations and quantified, in recent years, at 120 million euros .

However, Porcu specified, « a path has been indicated which will allow hunting in different periods, also making use of hunters . We are committed to following it as soon as possible, also by making regulatory changes to regional legislation".

« The proliferation of the wild boar - explained the councilor - but also of other species constitutes a serious problem which, albeit with the utmost respect for nature, deserves to be faced seriously, without any ideological conditioning . Therefore, in the next few days we will hold a series of meetings with hunting and category associations as well as all stakeholders, to discuss the best strategy to implement to achieve the goal".
