The process of the new waste contract of the Municipality of Porto Torres has come to an end. The company Sangalli Giancarlo & CSrl, with registered office in Monza, is the winner of the urban hygiene service tender for the next five years . The reduction on the tender cost was 7.69 percent, the total amount for 60 months is close to 18 million euros (17,947,438.02). Having arrived first in the ranking after the evaluation of the technical and economic offer, the Sangalli company remained sub judice, awaiting clarifications relating to the adequacy of the requirements.

"After the award of the contract, they will now wait the 30 days foreseen for any appeals and, subsequently, we could start the procedure for the rotation of the two companies", said the mayor Massimo Mulas. There are two macro-areas that include the main services: waste collection and urban hygiene services. The first section includes home collection services, on-call home collection services (bulky waste, waste, sanitary textiles), roadside and local collection (hazardous waste), other waste collection and transport services (produced at markets, parties, events), cemetery waste and animal carcasses. The second macro area includes manual and mixed sweeping services, emptying bins, washing streets and public areas, cleaning beaches), additional services such as drain cleaning, occasional emergency services and the management of the municipal collection centre. In August, separate waste collection reached approximately 74 percent. A priority objective is represented, in addition to the achievement of high percentages of separate waste collection, by achieving a reduction in waste production.

Among the new services that the manager will have to implement are those in favor of the dematerialisation of advertising, the promotion of domestic and collective composting, the establishment of Reuse Centres, the stipulation of agreements with local associations for the management of collection during parties and events, the “Ecomense” project, but also the recovery of food surpluses from accommodation and healthcare facilities and the encouragement of the use of washable nappies.

To protect the municipal administration in the event of a reduction in utilities, unlike the current contract, the concession fee paid by the Municipality to the company managing the service may be changed. Furthermore , it is intended to equip the municipal collection center with permanent equipment. On the home collection front, the territory has been divided into homogeneous areas that take into account a series of factors, such as population density and urban planning characteristics. On the island of Asinara, the design of a waste management system different from the past has begun. The intervention is financed with 867,691 thousand euros from the Fund for investments in the smaller islands.
