19 healthcare workers were victims of assault in 2023 in Sassari, including 15 nurses.

This is one of the data that emerged yesterday at the conference, held at the Hotel Grazia Deledda, organized by the Order of Nursing Professions.

"But we only talk - reports Gianluca Chelo, president of Opi Sassari - about the complaints. The hidden economy is actually much larger. Every day I receive emails and phone calls reporting attacks and threats."

Statistics for Sardinia show that 40.2% of nurses report having suffered acts of violence during their work, both physical and verbal, not to mention defamatory attacks on social media.

«Just think that 44% of operators have suffered from 4 to 10 attacks, 55% from 11 to 20 and 1% more than 20 attacks in a year».

A phenomenon that, as can be seen from several national cases, is constantly growing. «We have tried to give ourselves an explanation for this increase and we think that the scarce resources in terms of personnel may play a role, as happens in the emergency room and in the hospitalization units in the face of a great demand from users».

Now nurses are launching an appeal to the institutions. "They must protect us from a regulatory point of view - concludes Chelo - but also recognize our professionalism, based on the skills obtained through long studies, and which requires adequate economic recognition".
