Cases of violence against women also increased in Sassari during the pandemic. This is what the Center for Victimology and Violence Prevention of the Sassari Aou reveals.

Since May 2018, when it was established, 102 people have turned to the center, 92% of whom are victims of violence suffered within an emotional relationship.

At the beginning of the lockdown, requests for help decreased also because the victims, forced to live with their partner who is often also the torturer, did not go out and had no contact with the outside world.

But in September 2020 and before the second wave there was a real boom, with requests increasing by 70% compared to the same period last year.

Also in the light of these data, the Aou of Sassari will join the Open week against violence against women this year organized by the Onda Foundation, the National Observatory on Women's and Gender Health. "On November 26 - confirms Professor Alessandra Nivoli, head of the center - our outpatient service in San Camillo will be available from 9 to 13 for women who live in a dramatic situation and suffer from psychological, physical, economic and other violence. forms of domestic violence ".

Domestic violence which is "a structural and non-emergency phenomenon in our society". According to the psychiatrist, "too often women victims of violence feel alone and abandoned, before the center the public service did not fully respond to their needs and in addition there is still a great stigma, so it is often very difficult to intercept them because they are afraid, for to identify them it is necessary to do adequate primary prevention ".
