Villaurbana has formalized its membership of the international association "Città della Terra Cruda". Decision formalized during the last City Council.

The "Città della Terra Cruda" association has been promoting the recognition of architecture and settlements in raw earth for years as an expression of identity, values and knowledge on which to base the foundations of its own sustainable development. By joining, the municipal administration led by Paolo Pireddu sets itself the goal of making the most of the building specificities of the town and enhancing scientific research and experimentation initiatives and activities for the recovery of ancient knowledge. A way to be able to update and relaunch, in the building sector, the use of raw earth, and other local materials and techniques, renewing cultural, artistic and historical traditions.

The activities that will be carried out with the Association will be part of the urban redevelopment and attractiveness improvement project for which Villaurbana has received funding from the Ministry of Culture (“Bando Borghi”).

«Our commitment – says Pireddu – is aimed at enhancing our identity, creating attractiveness and opportunities for development in harmony with our vocations. We are working to ensure that the actions put in place contribute to the achievement of this goal. Raw earth is a constructive feature that risks disappearing over time and we would instead like to enhance it as, in addition to being a traditional typology, it is certainly an ecological construction material with low environmental impact».
