Villasor, head-on collision between Arst bus and a pick-up: elderly man dies on Highway 196
The driver of the bus was injured, all the young passengers were unharmed
His name was Sebastiano Chessa, 82 years old, originally from Desulo but resident in Iglesias, the victim of the fatal accident which occurred around 9.30pm yesterday on State Road 196, in the Villasor area.
He was driving a pick-up, a Fiat Strada, which crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with an Arst bus: Chessa died instantly.
The accident occurred at kilometer 13,900 of the road between Villasor and Villacidro. The driver of the public transport was injured: VV, 48 years old, was transported by ambulance to the Monserrato Polyclinic. His life is not in danger. However, the seven passengers on the bus were unharmed, all boys between 18 and 27 years old.
Traffic remained interrupted for over three hours, while investigations were underway by the Carabinieri of the Serramanna and Villasor stations, supported by their Radiomobile colleagues, and during the removal of the vehicles involved by the firefighters.
Chessa's body was transferred to the Villasor cemetery, available to his family.
