Six months have passed since the last street protest and a full 1,000 days since the closure of the iron bridge over the Flumendosa River, on the former state road 125, in the Villaputzu area.

Now the Ponte di Ferro Committee is back to demand the restoration of traffic on the bridge, closed since December 2023 due to the risk of collapse. On Saturday, September 26, there will be another demonstration, meeting at 9:00 a.m. in Piazza Leonardo Da Vinci for a march toward the ford adjacent to the Ponte di Ferro construction site.

"Once we reach the site, inside the Flumendosa riverbed, a human chain will form, symbolically holding hands to connect the two banks of the Flumendosa," the committee announced on social media. "At the end of the demonstration in the riverbed, the procession will regroup and return to Piazza Leonardo Da Vinci. In the square or under the town hall, the committee will provide residents with the latest updates on the progress of the iron bridge project."

After Cyclone Harry passed, the river ford was reopened, allowing those heading to Muravera or Cagliari to shorten their journey and avoid having to turn back to the Quirra junction, thus avoiding an additional 20 km.

On March 6, mayors and citizens took to the streets of Cagliari to demand the completion of the work on the bridge, which was due to end on May 30, 2025. An online petition was also launched which has so far collected 2,800 signatures.

With the budget variation approved in August, upon proposal by Sandro Porcu , regional councilor of Orizzonte Comune and municipal councilor in Villaputzu, the Sardinian assembly unanimously approved an agenda item to allocate 4.8 million euros for the complete design of the new bridge over the Flumendosa.
