By the end of August, the bridge will be closed for a thousand days. This increasingly dire situation for the Sarrabus area has prompted the new mayor of Villaputzu, Pierpaolo Piu, to write directly to Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini with two very specific requests: to obtain thirty-five million euros for a new bridge ("it is a strategic project and therefore a national priority , also because of the Polygon") and, at the same time, to ensure that work on the old bridge is completed as quickly as possible.

The letter retraces the steps that led to the closure of the iron bridge and—to limit the inconvenience—the construction of a raised ford, which, however, "today proves to be completely inadequate, precarious, and penalizing."

Indeed, "the lack of a stable crossing," Piu emphasizes, "is causing incalculable damage to the image and economic well-being of the entire community, the hospitality sector, and the naval and commercial complex of Porto Corallo. " This is "creating a serious social and economic divide that compromises the quality of life of our families and risks further depopulation of the area. We are witnessing an unacceptable phenomenon of commercial desertification and the marginalization of an area rich in excellent resources yet systematically excluded."
