The iron bridge over the old Eastern Sardinian road, which has always allowed you to bypass the Flumendosa in the stretch between Muravera and Villaputzu, closes from midnight . Considered unsafe, it will be closed by order of the Province of Southern Sardinia. The works are contracted out: it would take over 500 days to complete them .

Severe inconveniences announced for everyone. The mayor of Villaputzu, Sandro Porcu, announces barricades and calls, for Monday 11 December, a demonstration and an extraordinary municipal council meeting right near the iron bridge . «This news came today unexpectedly. In recent days, a technical table should have been held to define some aspects of the action plan relating to the creation of an alternative road system during the maintenance work scheduled on the same bridge. Work always defined, following all the assessments and inspections, as necessary to preserve its safety over time but never as an essential condition for its immediate viability".

After the meeting was convened, he continues, "the Municipality received a communication from the technician in charge of the bridge maintenance project which shows, contrary to what had emerged up to that point, that the bridge was at risk of collapsing ".

«If the conditions of the iron bridge are really so serious and this has been known for some time - comments Mayor Porcu - it is necessary to understand why this was never communicated, thus putting all of us at risk, and why no steps were taken to close the bridge first and immediately create an alternative road . The safety of people comes first, always, and therefore we ask everyone to exercise caution and follow the instructions that will be given; further details and news regarding the progress of the situation will be provided in the next few hours."
