A criminal investigation has been opened into the death of a woman, a swimming instructor and herself a masters swimmer, who died yesterday after surgery.
Ann Lauwers, 59, of Valledoria, underwent surgery on her lower limbs to fix a problem that was thought to have been caused by a fall.
According to the first investigations of the Tempio Prosecutor's Office, the surgery was a complete success, but the woman died after the operation due to a pulmonary embolism. The acquisition of the medical records and all the necessary tests to clarify the matter have been ordered.
The woman worked as an instructor in various public swimming pools in the province of Sassari and participated in swimming and crossing competitions.
