Tragedy struck this morning on Porticciolo beach in Alghero, where a tourist from Brescia, born in 1948, died despite prolonged resuscitation efforts.

The man was just a few meters from the shore when, according to initial reports, he became ill. The tourist was vacationing in Alghero with his sister and some cousins, staying at a nearby campsite. The lifeguard at the small beach responded immediately, administering first aid, starting CPR and performing cardiac massage. Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, and a rescue helicopter also arrived. Attempts to save his life continued for approximately 55 minutes, but unfortunately, all efforts were in vain. Paramedics were unable to do anything but pronounce the man dead. The cause of death is yet to be determined, although the leading hypothesis is a sudden illness.
