After almost 48 hours, and thanks to the work of 90 technicians with various specializations, the recovery of the speleologist who suffered an injury in the early afternoon of last Sunday in the S'Edera cave in Urzulei ended around 5:20 this morning . Awaiting him is the helicopter of the helicopter rescue base in Olbia with the medical team for transport to the hospital in Cagliari.

The 30-year-old from Cagliari had entered the cave on Sunday morning together with a group of speleologists, all Sardinians, for an exploration . When they reached a depth of about 180 meters, around 500 meters from the entrance, in the area of the cave called Pozzo della Grande Marmitta, the 30-year-old slipped and fractured his leg . Hence the alert to the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps of Sardinia.

The technicians of the Ogliastra Alpine Station intervened on the spot to set up the base camp and support the technical and health teams of the speleological rescue, who entered the cave to provide first aid to the wounded.

"The morphology of the cave, unfortunately, did not allow an easy passage of the stretcher, a necessary safeguard given the type of trauma suffered by the injured person, therefore, the speleological rescue technicians specialized in unblocking were alerted who, with the aid of microcharges, they have taken steps to facilitate the passage of the stretcher ” , explain Cnsas.

The injured person “was reached by the technicians and health workers of the CNSAS, he was stabilized and kept in a hot spot specially set up with a curtain to allow him to face the long stops dictated by the recovery operations. A specially built medical facility was also used which immobilized his limb and at the same time facilitated the passage of the injured person in narrow places without the aid of a stretcher ".

The operations were attended by unblocking technicians from Lombardy, Piedmont, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Campania, Lazio and Umbria, who arrived on the island also thanks to the collaboration of Cnsas with the Air Force, which made available a helicopter taken off from Pratica di Sea. Other technicians from Tuscany and Lazio join forces as a support for the recovery maneuver and logistics.

The intervention was also carried out in collaboration with the staff of the Fire Brigade, the Carabinieri of the Lanusei Station and the Areus staff.
