The health emergency in the Terralba area continues unabated. Starting July 31st, Uras will no longer have a family doctor. After 35 years of service, Aldo Tullio Rizzetto, the town's longtime doctor and former mayor, is retiring. This is a significant problem for his 1,600 patients, at least until the Oristano Local Health Authority expands the Ascot community clinic, which provides free access to patients without a family doctor. For now, the clinic opens only on Tuesday mornings: the Uras community is looking ahead to hot days.
At this time, it's unclear when the other doctors will arrive. Mayor Samuele Fenu, however, isn't worried: " I've been in contact with the local health authority for days to determine the new Ascot shifts. I'm certain that the increase, necessary given the lack of a doctor with so many patients, will happen as soon as possible . In the meantime, we thank Dr. Rizzetto for his dedication and commitment to patient care."
The Oristano Local Health Authority (ASL) has made a promise: "The Ascot office is working to increase the clinic's shifts," they say from Via Carducci. "All the information will be provided shortly."
Rizzetto is about to retire at the age of 70: "To ensure no one is left behind, at least three Ascot doctors should arrive, as I've been told. Let's hope so. I think I'll be the last general practitioner in Uras' history, since no one is responding to the calls for applications anymore."
Aldo Rizzetto could have retired two years ago: "But I preferred to help my country," he says. "Now I have to stop for health reasons. We general practitioners can't die in our practices. Given the health emergency, I haven't taken a day off for four years. Enough now, I need to rest."
