This morning, on Caprera, the island from which Garibaldi set off several times to fight and achieve the unification of Italy, the 163rd anniversary of this historic event was celebrated, a day equally dedicated to the Constitution, the anthem and the Flag.

A laurel wreath was placed on the Hero's tomb by the new prefect of Sassari, Grazia La Fauci, delegated by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in the presence of the mayor, Fabio Lai, the commander of the Military Garrison Simone Battisti and other authorities civil and military. After the minute of reflection, in his brief greeting the mayor underlined the importance of the celebration which means "remembering, for ourselves but above all for future generations".

A ceremony "which serves to reaffirm and consolidate national identity through remembrance and civic memory" stated the prefect, citing the law establishing this day, regretting however that this year, as it fell on a Sunday, it did not see the presence of schoolchildren and students but, he added, "for next year I am already thinking about the possibility of organizing an even more participatory ceremony, especially with young people from schools".

Aldo Accardo, honorary president of the Giuseppe Garibaldi Memorial Foundation, subsequently gave a short speech entitled: "The Risorgimento: a distant country?".
