The investigations into the assault on the betting center on October 9th in Sestu are enriched with new details. The Carabinieri have recovered in Irgoli, in the home of one of those arrested for the robbery, two votive swords that according to the first investigations of the Superintendency belong to the Nuragic period, between the 13th and 12th centuries BC .
The swords were allegedly found in the top drawer of a window during the search that took place in the context of the arrest of the suspect. The Carabinieri of Sestu and Quartu forwarded the information report to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Nuoro, which validated the seizure . In the same house, the Carabinieri who acted under the command of Major Michele Cerri and Lieutenant Riccardo Pirali, also recovered a precision scale and 56 grams of marijuana . The suspect must now answer for the crimes of robbery, receiving stolen cultural goods and possession of drugs .
The discovery of the two swords was immediately reported to the experts of the Superintendency of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari and of the provinces of Oristano and South Sardinia, as well as to the Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Cagliari.
Experts have confirmed the historical importance of the two swords and their belonging to the Nuragic civilization. The artefacts were used for ritual purposes. In the Recent Bronze Age (1,350-1,150 BC), according to experts, swords were often placed in sanctuaries and giants' tombs, as part of a cult linked to the celebration of weapons and ancestors .
The artifacts will be subjected to further studies in consideration of their historical and archaeological value. In the meantime , investigations into the robbery are continuing to identify the third person responsible for the robbery, after the arrests of a young man from Irgoli and a 63-year-old man from Cagliari . Soon, the two alleged robbers will be questioned in prison by the magistrate. For them, it will be the first opportunity to tell their version of the story.
