Two acts of extraordinary generosity, carried out by citizens of the province of Nuoro and supported by their families, have recently enabled the multi-organ harvesting of deceased patients at San Francesco. In just fifteen days, two organ harvesting operations were performed, making heart, lung, liver, and kidney transplants possible, restoring hope and a future for several people on the waiting list.

"In 15 days," confirms Pierina Ticca, head of the local hospital transplant coordination, "two multi-organ harvests were performed, thanks to the wishes expressed during their lifetime by two donors from our province and with the invaluable support of their families ."

The operations involved extensive teamwork among numerous hospital departments: the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit, the Operating Theatre, Neurology, Cardiology, Laboratory Analysis, Transfusion Center, Radiology, General Surgery, Urology, and the Hospital Medical Directorate. All departments coordinated under the direction of the Hospital Coordination Unit for Blood Collection and Transplantation, headed by Dr. Ticca, to complete the brain death assessment and evaluate donor suitability .

"Everyone," adds Ticca, "has contributed to the complex operation of this great machine, collaborating in a network with the Regional Transplant Center of Sardinia and the National Transplant Center. Thanks to this shared effort, it has been possible to give new life to patients waiting for transplants, through an act of immense human and social value ."

Angelo Zuccarelli, Special Commissioner of Nuoro's Local Health Authority (ASL 3), expressed his heartfelt thanks: " The donors' families deserve our gratitude for their commendable act of altruism . I also thank all the hospital staff for their dedication: they contributed to one of the most extraordinary advances in medicine and human solidarity. As the Local Health Authority (ASL) management, we deeply believe in the culture of donation. This event represents a concrete example of how organizational efficiency has combined with the value of solidarity to achieve a truly significant goal."
