A 20-year-old boy from Olbia is hospitalized at the Santissima Trinità hospital for type B meningitis . The young man was in Quartu on Sunday for a sporting event, during the match he felt ill and was taken to hospital and admitted as an emergency.

His condition is serious and is described as stable and slowly improving .

After a brief stay in intensive care, the twenty-year-old was transferred to Brotzu for checks in the evening due to worsening conditions. Then his clinical picture fortunately recovered and last night he returned to Santissima Trinità, where he remains under constant observation.

The two competent local health authorities (Cagliari and Gallura) have started investigations to reconstruct the young man's contacts , understand where he may have contracted meningitis and start prophylaxis.

«The Hygiene and Public Health service of the Gallura Local Health Authority - it is explained - promptly started the epidemiological investigation with the search for the boy's close contacts, the prophylaxis of family members and acquaintances and health surveillance, also informing and collaborating with the Local Health Authorities of the territories frequented by the young man in the last few days. At the moment there are around thirty subjects undergoing prophylaxis in Northern Sardinia ."

The Cagliari Local Health Authority has also initiated "all preventive measures" against the "close contacts" of the twenty-year-old .
