The Court of Cassation has overturned the seizure orders of the computer equipment at the center of the Genoa Prosecutor's Office investigation known as Traghettopoli. The magistrates ruled that prosecutors cannot even withhold the forensic copy of the data relating to the massive consultancy on the email accounts of 14 Moby Group executives , files which investigators believe contain the information for 34,000 free trips on Vincenzo Onorato's ferries.

All the material must be returned to the Moby, Tirrenia, and Cin shipping companies . This is a victory for the defense and a setback to the investigation conducted by the Guardia di Finanza. In early December, in Genoa, prosecutor Walter Cotugno and the lawyers of the more than 120 people under investigation for corruption and other crimes (Coast Guard officers, maritime directors, Moby managers, public officials, politicians, magistrates, and members of law enforcement) met to discuss the use of the data.

The defense attorneys for the Sardinian suspects were also present in the hearing room (including lawyers Marzio Altana, Sara Pala, Pietro Carzedda, Luca Montella, and Pierfranco Tirotto). Now we must await the decisions of the Ligurian prosecutors.
