To determine the exact cause of death, the Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered an autopsy on the body of Antonio Corda, the 90-year-old man from Porto Torres who was killed in the accident on Saturday evening on the former provincial road 131, just outside the city.

Following the impact near the Sorso turnoff, the pensioner was admitted to the intensive care unit of Sassari Civil Hospital with internal injuries to his chest and abdomen, as well as fractures to his limbs and a head and facial trauma. The elderly man's condition worsened on Sunday evening, when his heart stopped beating.

Aboard his Apecar, it was around 6:00 PM when he decided to return home after leaving the countryside, in the Li Pidriazzi area. He was about to enter the former 131 highway when an Alfa Brera, speeding, rammed the motorcycle, shattering it to pieces, catapulting the elderly man onto the asphalt. The driver of the car, a 35-year-old from Porto Torres, had not stopped to provide assistance. The Carabinieri of the Porto Torres company, already on his trail, had located the abandoned car in Serra Li Pozzi, not far from the accident site. Only later did the young man voluntarily report to the police station on Via Antonelli.

The 35-year-old was charged with serious bodily harm through negligence and failure to provide assistance, and is now charged with manslaughter.
