Tragedy close to Cabras: elderly woman saved from flames, children taken to barracks

In the historic center of the town, the smell of burning can still be felt hours later. And the citizens who come to browse are many.

In via Machiavelli, in Cabras , all hell broke loose last night around 9pm. The basement of a house, not far from the former municipal kindergarten and the Contini cellar, was engulfed in flames. The inhabitants of the street who were frightened by the smoke coming out of the house called for help, also knowing that an elderly disabled woman lives inside with her two children .

Three teams of the Oristano firefighters immediately intervened on the spot. The 115 men immediately rescued the woman with mobility problems who was transported to the San Martino hospital for checks since the smoke had already reached her room .

Then they put out the flames and made the house safe. The firefighters worked until 1 am. The woman's two children, on the other hand, who initially did not want to leave the house despite the danger and creating panic among those present, were accompanied to the barracks to be heard by the carabinieri. The military of the local station are trying to understand the origin of the fire. Yesterday evening the magistrate on duty was also informed.

The mayor of Cabras Andrea Abis also arrived immediately on the spot. Little or nothing remains of the basement of the house. Everything inside was engulfed in flames. After hours of work, the firefighters cleared the area, made the house safe, declaring it unusable.
