New record for tourist tax revenues, throughout Italy – 1 billion 24 million euros – and in Sardinia – 30 million 21 thousand – with an increase on the Island last year of over 4.8 million (+19%), and a forecast for 2025 of a further significant growth of over 4 and a half million euros (+15%), because the number of Municipalities that apply it is increasing.

Olbia is the Sardinian queen. Cagliari in 2024 collected 230 thousand euros and is considering an increase. In Quartu, however, the tax that will come into force in June (from 2026 it will be paid from March 1st to October 31st) will bring about 200 thousand euros into the municipal coffers. At the national level, Rome beats everyone (it alone makes 290 million and is always rising).

The “treasure” that comes from tourists is manna from heaven for administrations that have to deal with budgets that are decreasing due to state cuts, but the problem, once again, is the way in which the resources are then reinvested.

The operators protest: «The revenue must be entirely allocated to interventions related to tourism, to support a sector that contributes to the economy and employment in the area».
