The new Tossilo waste-to-energy plant will not be able to start up for one year. A myriad of technical issues need to be resolved first. However, an important step forward has been taken in solving the problem of waste treatment, which affects all of central-northern Sardinia.

In the meeting held this morning in Nuoro, coordinated by the Prefect Giancarlo Dionisi, the regional councilor for the environment, Marco Porcu, in fact announced the disbursement by the Region of half a million euros , which will allow the before the summer, (probably within the month of June), of the composting plant, for the treatment and selection of organic waste. It is now a question of proceeding with the agreements with the Municipalities for the transfer of waste .

"Step by step, we are heading towards an overall solution to the problem - says the Prefect, Giancarlo Dionisi - to do so, however, we need a serious and concrete financial commitment from the Region, which councilor Porcu has assured, so that the Industrial Consortium, to which headed by Tossilo Spa, is capable of making the necessary technical adjustments to the plants and settling the previous debts accumulated with the suppliers of the services essential to the operation of the plants themselves. I can only be satisfied, because a significant environmental problem is being solved».

As regards the authorizations, Arpas and the Province are working on it, whose representatives were present at this morning's meeting. «We are ready to start up the composting plant - says the president of Tossilo Spa, Antonio Delitala - this allows the company to generate income and pay salaries and service providers . I must say that the overall solution to the problems is close, with the liquidation of the sums to pay the workers' arrears and future salaries".
