Tortolì loses its centenary: Gino Mereu died at 101 years old

He turned 101 on January 22nd . Gino Mereu , originally from Ilbono but transplanted to Tortolì all his life, died last night in the San Giorgio shelter in Lanusei, where he had been a guest for some time.

The man was a widower and had no children with his wife, Severina Pani, who passed away in 2016.

Gino Mereu, who worked his entire life as a street greengrocer , spent his last years with his grandchildren in his home in Via Dante. Funeral tomorrow at 4pm in the church of Sant'Andrea . Last week the community bid farewell to another centenarian, Assuntina Piras, who also reached 101 years of age.
