Moments of fear in Tortolì where two fires broke out in two apartments last night. The first, just before 8.30 pm, in via Generale Toxiri , where the firefighters put out the flames that had developed in a basement. The episode that occurred in via Seminario , in the back of the Banco di Sardegna branch, was much more serious. Here the police officers of the Tortolì police station, alerted by the Nue, broke into the house filled with smoke where an elderly man had remained imprisoned . An 85-year-old pensioner was found crouching in a corner of the garage and the two policemen physically took him away .

He was breathing hard, in an environment saturated with white smoke released from the fireplace where the man was burning a trunk full of books and plastic objects. He risked dying from poisoning if the crew of the patrol car had not arrived , coordinated by the manager Fabrizio Figliola, who was passing through Via Seminario during a usual territorial control service.

To reach the man, the officers, with the collaboration of his son, forced the gate and the front door. The intervention was carried out before the firefighters arrived, busy with the fire in via Generale Toxiri.

In a few moments the 118 ambulance also arrived and transferred the elderly man to Lanusei hospital . The patient, subjected to all the necessary investigations, was kept for observation .

During the fire extinguishing and cleanup operations, the building was temporarily evacuated .

In both cases the firefighters intervened in force: in via Generale Toxiri, in the presence of the carabinieri of the Lanusei company, with a tanker and a camper van, while in via Seminario with two APS vehicles (fire engine-tank) and a country girl form.
