A major step forward in the redevelopment of Tortolì Airport, with the goal of certifying it as a civil aviation hub. The Sardinia Region has allocated €3.5 million for the facility's redevelopment, a crucial step toward obtaining authorization from ENAC (Italian National Aviation Authority) and opening the airport to civil aviation.
The goal is to enable the airport not only for general aviation but also for the operation of commercial aircraft with 80-100 seats . This will make it economically sustainable. The project includes upgrading the perimeter fence, renovating the maneuvering areas, upgrading the fuel depot and technical facilities, securing the terminal, strengthening the fire prevention systems, installing water and sewer systems, and purchasing the airport equipment necessary for operations.
"We have made a farsighted and technically sound decision," says Regional Councilor for Transport Barbara Manca. "Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our offices, the Presidency, and European bodies, we have secured a crucial measure for revitalizing mobility and tourism in Ogliastra. Tortolì Airport can finally become a full member of Sardinia's civil airport network, alongside Cagliari, Alghero, and Olbia ."
The analysis of the regulations allowed the operations to be unblocked without the need for formal notification to the Commission, thus accelerating the implementation of the intervention. The final step will now be updating the agreement with the industrial consortium to make the disbursement of the funds operational.
