After countless announcements, postponements, and false starts, this time it's serious: work will begin in the coming days on the redevelopment and expansion of the Torre Grande tourist and fishing port . This project, long-anticipated and considered strategic for the revitalization of the Oristano coastline, is finally entering its operational phase.
The Municipality of Oristano has approved the executive project for the first lot, worth a total of €6.42 million, financed with FSC 2021-2027 funds and regional resources. The goal: to make the port facilities more modern, safe, and functional, paving the way for new economic and tourism development opportunities for the entire region.
The works have already been handed over to the winning contractor, Ingegneria Costruzioni Colombrita Srl of Catania. The timetable is clear: 330 days of work and a renovated port by the end of 2026.
The project , developed by the IA Consulting – Sinergie consortium and verified by Artech Studio, includes improvements to the docks and piers, new electrical and water systems, fire prevention upgrades, and the reorganization of operational areas and services for fishing and recreational boating . Improvements to pedestrian and vehicle paths and an aesthetic redevelopment of common areas will also be included, integrating the port into the urban fabric and coastal tourism.
"This is a decisive moment for Torre Grande," commented Mayor Massimiliano Sanna. "This project transforms years of waiting into a concrete opportunity for sustainable growth." Public Works Councilor Gianfranco Licheri echoed his sentiments: "The construction site is the result of a complex but shared journey. The port will be modern, efficient, and capable of generating new jobs."
Five phases are planned, each lasting approximately three months, to minimize disruption to fishermen and boaters. Meanwhile, a €20 million project for seabed dredging is already underway: a further step toward the full rebirth of the port of Oristano.
