Tons of marijuana to be disposed of, an emergency in the Nuoro area: Forestas will handle it.

Tens and tens (at least fifty) tons of marijuana seized in just a few months. Thousands of plants discovered and destroyed, square kilometers of land used for illegal cultivation, which in recent years have transformed the Nuoro area into one of the main areas of illegal cannabis production in Italy.
Disposal
But despite the multi-million dollar profits for those who grow and traffic, the costs of management and disposal fall on the state and, therefore, on the citizens. Marijuana is classified as special waste and can only be destroyed at the Tecnocasic plantation in Cagliari, the only authorized incinerator in Sardinia. This involves long journeys—up to six transports for the largest plantations—with costs often exceeding thousands of euros per operation.
Forestry cutting and transport
Precisely to address this operational emergency, the first memorandum of understanding was signed yesterday at the Nuoro Government Palace between Prefect Alessandra Nigro and the sole director of the Forestas Agency, Salvatore Piras. This agreement provides for Forestas's direct involvement in post-seizure operations: uprooting, loading, transportation to storage, and disposal of plant material. Forestas will provide personnel, specialized equipment, and logistical support, assisting law enforcement in a phase that until now had been entirely their responsibility. Thanks to this agreement, dozens of police officers and Carabinieri, previously forced to spend up to a week in the fields cutting and loading plants, will be able to immediately return to work, focusing on investigative work.
