Todde: "It's unsustainable for Sardinia to host more prisoners under the 41-bis regime."
The governor, speaking on the sidelines of the meeting in Uta regarding the transfer of other maximum-security inmates to the island, said: "We are ready to do our part, but also to defend our own safety."Video di Marco Noce
"Our position is clear: we are a responsible region, ready to do our duty, but we are not willing to accept unilateral decisions to the detriment of the Sardinians."
Governor Alessandra Todde stated this on the sidelines of the assembly organized in Uta to discuss the impact of the announced, imminent arrival of 92 inmates in 41 Bis – maximum security regime – at the Ettore Scalas prison.
"We already host prisoners under the 41 bis regime, but we cannot take in any more, in numbers that are neither sustainable for our economy nor for our security," Todde explained, given that when these transfers occur, "it is not just individual prisoners that are moved, but entire contexts."
Regarding the risk of possible criminal infiltration in Sardinia , the governor added, "it's a fact, because there are major projects planned, so we need to be sure we can do things properly." For this reason, Todde concluded, it is necessary to "work to keep our land and our economy healthy , collaborating with central institutions, but protecting the Sardinian context from unsupported decisions."
