The Brotzu intensive short-term observation unit has been "dismantled," with the number of beds halved from 12 to 6 to make way for pediatric intensive care.
The case ends up in the regional council, with a complaint from FdI councilor Fausto Piga: "Only in February, the Short Intensive Observation Unit at the Brotzu Emergency Room was hailed as a strategic asset for emergency care, essential for reducing waiting times and unblocking hospitalizations. Today, just a few months later and despite the use of PNRR resources, the decision has been made to dismantle the original project."
"No one questions the value of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, but the approach chosen is flawed. They are taking ten steps backwards by halving the OBI's beds from the original 12 to just 6: a crazy decision," Piga emphasizes, asking interim president and councilor Alessandra Todde to consider alternatives. Such as "designating the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with spaces that are already ready and suitable for four beds, a capacity fully proportionate to the real needs of the regional catchment area and easily accredited. Instead, they chose to overdo it, taking vital resources away from the Emergency Room."
An "irresponsible" choice, attacks the councilor, who calls for "a halt to the dismantling of the emergency room OBI."
