"Fair winds, Global Sumud Flotilla": this is the wish from the President of the Region, Alessandra Todde, for the fleet of vessels that departed from various European ports (including Genoa) to bring aid to the Palestinian population despite threats from the Israeli government.
"A peacekeeping fleet, made up of many small pleasure boats, staffed by people from 44 different countries," Todde claims, "will set sail for Gaza to break the naval siege and bring concrete solidarity. Indeed, the galleys contain tons of humanitarian aid, collected for over €2 million and donated by over 30,000 people."
The name "Sumud," an Arabic concept of perseverance, resilience, and determination, the president continues, "expresses well what international civil society has achieved, which has instead succeeded in filling the silences and absences of the respective governments."
Todde isn't speaking personally: " As president of the Sardinia Region, I want to wish all sailors fair winds and make them feel the closeness of a land that aspires, with ever greater determination, to be a land of peace and solidarity."
