A 70-year-old from Varese and a 41-year-old from Civitanova Marche were sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison for having broadcast the encrypted programs of Mediaset Premium and Sky Italia thanks to an Iptv streaming platform.

This was decided by the judge of the Court of Cagliari, Cristina Ornano.

The investigation by the prosecutor Giangiacomo Pilia, one of the first in Italy to concern the IPTV system, showed that the two had set up a system of telematic networks to transmit programs protected by copyright. In exchange for a few euros it was possible to receive all the packages of the Sky and Mediaset Premium platforms.

For the Prosecutor of Cagliari, which made use of the investigations of the Guardia di Finanza, the two defendants allegedly violated copyright by providing entire schedules of encrypted channels, accessible only by subscription, to an unspecified number of users.

The judge also applied the 5-year ban from public office. Compensation to Sky and Rti (Mediaset) will be established in civil proceedings, but a provisional amount of 145 thousand euros has already been recognized for each of the two television giants.
